Sketches in the morning

My classmate Noel is leaving us, he got accepted in NTU School of Art, Design and Media.
So a group of us decided to meet up and catch a movie together. Show time is at 1.10pm at Illuma but me, Noel and Yuan Ru decided to meet up slightly earlier at 10.30am for a little sketching session.
I think I may have found my sketching kakis :p

We sat outside Starbucks to sketch and I'm surprised that there were not many people during that hour!
And boy isn't it a good thing, okay maybe not good for YuanRu because she wanted to practice sketching people hahaha, I'm still working on my perspectives.

Drawing Essentials

I thought it would be nice to share what I did for Drawing Essentials last month.
For the final submission we were suppose to produce a A2 size drawing with either pencil, charcoal, ink etc. as long as its monochrome.

So I drew my wildest imagination.
Pardon me for the lousy quality photos, they were taken with my iphone.

I really enjoy doing pencil drawings but the shading part requires lots of time and patience.
The graphite will also dirty your hands, so I usually put a tissue paper over the spot where my palm rest.

I have a lot of sketches which I submitted to the lecturer and is still in the process of marking, I'll scan and upload them once I get them back. :)

Be Versatile

I have always encouraged myself not to be stuck to one drawing style and be more open to practice different styles of illustrations.

I'm very inspired by the female body and sexuality.
Here are some sketches which I did recently, I'm still trying to improve on facial features and hair!

My friends believe that I'm more of a cartoonist style artist.
I do agree because I have been doodling cartoons back during my childhood days where I watch alot of cartoons, and I still do!
I always feel that cartoons brings out the child in you, which brings out creativity and crazy ideas.

here are some of today's doodle.
The Peacock was inspired by a friend who presented a wire model of a peacock during 3Dartfun class today.
Very sketchy doodle of some tiki or rather uncivilized people. Inspired by a game 'Godfinger' an iphone game which I recently installed.

The Opening of Tiong Bahru Sketches Exhibition

Attended the opening reception with some friends after school.
The place wasn't hard to find, its walkable from Tiong Bahru MRT Station. Alot of people turned up for the opening, here are some photos that I snap.

One part of the exhibition walls. Oh there are also sofas for you to sit on just in case you are tired.
A shot of me and my lecturer Tia, who is also one of the artist who exhibited their works.
Their sketches are for sale too! We couldn't believe the price when we first saw them.
But Tia told us that if we are good, White Canvas Gallery would let us exhibit our works there! woo!
I also got the 4 artist autograph! I like Miel's the best, he actually illustrated himself hahaha.

Tiong Bahru Sketches Exhibition

My lecturer Tia Boon Sim, who taught us Drawing Essentials will be featuring her works along with some friends at the White Canvas Gallery starting tomorrow.

3D'Clay'ArtFun

Today I stayed in school till way pass 8pm to finish up my clay sculpture.
I had the weekends to think about what to sculpt for my 30cm high clay assignment for this module.
I'm having 3DArtFun now, I guess we are suppose to explore everything 3 dimensional.
We started with clay, I heard its wiring next. I bet my fingers are going to break, I tired wiring before 2 months back when I took up a short course at EggStory Digital Arts School.

So after much consideration, I decided to sculpt Totoro!
A character from the animation 'My Neighbour Totoro' created in 1988 by Hayao Miyazaki.
Hayo Miyazaki is a fantastic animator and a darn good story teller, his animation really brings out the wildest imagination one could ever imagine.
And to have convert them to animation and show the world, I really give it up to him. I always wonder how he does it, I could never get myself to illustrate my dreams/imaginations.
I tried telling my boyfriend about those quirky strange dreams that i often had at home, and he just thinks its weird.
Then again weird can be the next in thing right? Haha, I'm going to illustrate more from now on!

But first, here is my Totoro!


I can't wait to fire it.

A date with my Sketchbook

Some sketches which I did recently while I was out.
Bridal Store at Orchard Delfi, I sketch this while waiting for a friend.
And while waiting for my dad to come pick me up outside lavender station on the 24th, I spotted this Wall's Ice Cream stand!
The unique thing about this is the fact that its run by a women instead of a man! Middle age women in fact, usually you see uncles in their 50's instead.

The Grand Opening Address

New blog for my new aspirations and journey!

From here on I shall blog about my life as a Temasek Design Student, my thoughts, inspirations, sketches, doodles, designs. Basically my journey as a creative individual.

I should have started doing this since I graduated in ITE and entered Temasek Polytechnic since April 2010 this year, but I guess it is never too late to start!

A short summary if you don't know me, I graduated from Ang Mo Kio ITE this year as a Digital Media Design (Video Effects) student. Video Effects wasn't my cup of tea, so i entered Temasek Polytechnic to pursue a diploma in Visual Effects.
I hope to be an Illustrator and Graphic Designer in the future.

I always carry a sketchbook with me where ever I go as I love to sketch, doodle, brainstorm on a design while on the go.
But ever since I had 'Drawing Essential' module in Temasek Polytechnic under Mdm Tia a lecturer, I started to carry 2 sketchbooks instead one 1.
One for watercolour, another for ink/penciling.
Mdm Tia was a great lecturer and an excellent artist. I refined my sketching skills and learned how to splash coffee stains and use watercolour under her! How cool is that?
Ever since her module, I started to have a new hobby! A sketching Hobby!
Instead of plain black and white pencil doodles, I now have the courage to draw in Ink and apply colours!

I couldn't thank her more.
